How MUCH does IVY LEAGUE COST | How MUCH to SAVE for COLLEGE [Video]

The Wall Street Journal came out with the latest listing of top colleges and best value colleges in the United States. The listing is similar to prior years. College prices continue to soar and at the current pace of change, these prices cannot be sustained over the long term. Ivy League universities have a very solid representation in the top university lists. And these colleges have been raising their prices 3%-5% annually. Ivy leagues are also the most expensive colleges and the rate of change of ivy league college prices is unsustainable. This video explains why. Generally, the top universities are charging between $75,000 and $85,000 every year. And these are current prices. Parents that are planning for their kids to attend a top school will have to plan for significantly higher prices. As an example, Harvard costs are currently around $82,000. That’s about $320,000 over 4 years. At a price increase of 5% every year, these prices will be over $660,000 in 13 years. While it is increasingly important to save for college early, the fact of the matter remains that it will be very difficult to afford college at the current pace of price increases. Without scholarships or financial aid, ivy league colleges are already unaffordable.A key thing to note is that prices for value colleges are also soaring. Some of the best value colleges are already over $40,000 per year.Parents are going to have to rethink how to save for college. Or perhaps if it’s even worth saving for college. Perhaps trade schools or community colleges have a bigger role in the future. The bottom line is something has to give.
