Previous Texas football recruiting classes and Sark’s future outlook in college football recruiting

Previous Texas football recruiting classes and Sark’s future outlook in college football recruiting.

Geoff Ketchum, Publisher of Orangebloods.com and Anwar Richardson, Texas Longhorns beat reporter for Orangebloods.com discuss the talent of the 2021 Texas Longhorns roster.

Anwar Richardson says Texas fans were sold on the idea that the cake was in the oven and just needed to finish baking: “Sark was going to be the person who comes in, takes what they [Texas football] have, fine tunes it, makes the little changes that need to be made, makes better in game decisions and that’s all your needed to have success.”

Steve Sarkisian came in with a different approach than Charlie Strong who said publicly that Texas is not going to immediately win championships. Even as recently as a few weeks back Sark was speaking about Texas righting the ship and getting a rematch with Oklahoma to play for a Big 12 title.

Ketch takes a deeper look at the recruiting classes of the past 4 years and talks through the overall issues Texas has had in developing talent. Texas Longhorns have recruited a ton of talent, but they’re continuing to struggle to develop their talent.

Ketch audits the 2018 and 2019 recruiting classes. When it comes to 2018, Texas is in business, but 2019 is where things go awry. Ketch discussed the success of the 2018 class: “This particular recruiting class (2018 recruiting class) is going to end up with 5 or 6 NFL guys on it. If you are getting 5 or 6 NFL guys in every recruiting class that means you’ve got like 25 NFL guys on your roster typically…and that’s how you compete for [CFP and Big 12 or SEC] Championships.

Ketch: “If every class produces like THAT (UT football 2018 recruiting) class, you are in business. The problem is when you go to 2019.”

Steve Sarkisian’s most important task is not only continue to recruit at a high level, but to develop talent. Texas has really struggled in developing the talent that Texas is able to get on campus.
